Here you have some GAMSAT physics questions below, which have been created to represent the types of questions in the actual exam. The following questions cover the topic – weights and units.

Unit 1 – GAMSAT Physics Questions 1-4

A cube made of steel has a mass of 50 kg on earth. The acceleration due to gravity on earth is 9.81 m/s2, while on the moon it is equal to 1.635 m/s2. (Hint: 1N = 100,000 dynes)

Answer the following:

1. What is the cube’s mass on the moon?

A. 50/6 kg
B. 300 kg
C. 50 kg
D. 44 kg

2. What is the cube’s weight on earth?

A. 490.5 dynes
B. 490.5 kg
C. 81.75 kg
D. 4.905 x 107 dynes

3. Which weighs more, 50 kg of cotton on earth or 50 kg of steel on the moon?

A. cotton
B. steel
C. they have the same weights
D. can’t be determined

4. Which has higher density, 50 kg of cotton on earth or 50 kg of steel on moon, considering that they have the same volume?

A. cotton
B. steel
C. they have the same densities
D. can’t be determined

GAMSAT Physics Answers

Unit 1

Answer to Question 1:
The mass of the cube will remain the same even if it is on the moon. The key is therefore C.

Answer to Question 2:
Weight of an object is defined as its mass times the acceleration of gravity (g). Since the weight that we are asked for is on earth, we will use 9.81 m/s2. Multiplying this with the cube’s mass, we get:

They key is therefore D.

Answer to Question 3:
Both cotton and steel have the same masses, irrespective of their location. However, since the cotton is on earth, which has an acceleration due to gravity 6 times that of the moon, it follows that it would weigh more than the steel on the moon. The key is therefore A.

Answer to Question 4:
Density is defined as the mass of an object per its unit volume, or

gamsat-physics-formulaSince both cotton and steel have the same masses and volumes, then they also have equal densities.

The key is therefore C.

How much time to I need to prepare for the gamsat

A normal time for preparation for GAMSAT by most people is around three months, but if you put all your effort into preparing for the GAMSAT, you could very well be ready for the GASAT in only two months.

That being said, if you are a person that would like to revise extensively for section III (which can be very time-consuming as it covers so much information), you may wish to invest a little more time to take in everything needed to pass the test. Either way, the sooner you register and commit to sitting the exam, the sooner you can start preparing!

This is why when you download or buy the best GAMSAT preparation materials such practice questions, GAMSAT books and even free pdf’s from ACE GAMSAT, you only stand to have the best possible chance of passing the test.
